About the GVYMA
FOUNDED in 2011
The GVYMA is a creative, educational, and completely musical experience for young musicians. We provide a well-rounded, artistic environment designed to stimulate natural musicality.
The GVYMA advocates for music education in public and private schools in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. We assist teachers through sponsored clinics, collaborative events, fundraising, and our mandatory enrollment clause.
The GVYMA currently consists of jazz bands and concert bands. The Concert Winds and Premier Jazz Band are designed to help younger musicians with 1-2 years' experience. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Signature Jazz Band are the more advanced ensembles for students who demonstrate a high level of technical proficiency on their instruments.
All 4 ensembles are assisted by instrumental coaches that play along with them, helping their sections learn and grow together. Our coaches are music students in university and music professionals.
Every young musician who wants to be a part of our educational system has a place with us. There is a home for every student in a place that will best foster their growth. Students complete a placement audition upon registration to allow us to choose the place for them to thrive.
